Cervical Compartment Syndrome – Complication of Central Venous Catheterization
Iatrogenic carotid artery injury may result from various medical procedures. We describe a nearly devastating complication such as the occurrence of cervical compartment syndrome following the attempt of a transjugular central venous catheterization. A vascular surgical approach was conducted to treat this rare clinical finding that has not been described in the literature until recently.
متن کاملA Venous Catheter Complication: Venous Perforation and Lung Injury.
Central venous catheters are frequently used for different causes, like fluid infusions, haemodialysis, and measurement of central venous pressure. Complications that occur at the time or after the placement of these catheters can give harm to the patient or can cause need for a new attempt. Complications, like malfunction of the catheter, arterial puncture, haemothorax, or pneumothorax, can be...
متن کاملHydrothorax after central venous catheterization.
Three patients are described who developed hydrothorax as a complication of central venous catheterization. Respiratory distress associated with physical signs of fluid in the chest should arouse suspicion that the venous catheter has perforated the wall of the vein. The complications of central venous catheterization are reviewed and three cases of hydrothorax are presented. Comments on the pre...

متن کاملCentral venous catheterization and fatal cardiac tamponade.
Cardiac tamponade is a poorly recognized complication of central venous catheterization associated with a high mortality. We present a case of fatal cardiac tamponade after intra- pericardial infusion of total parenteral nutrition in a patient who had two central venous catheters. We suggest that catheter tip position should always be confirmed before use of a catheter. Tamponade should be susp...
